An Amazing-Looking Barred Galaxy. Quite near too.

  This galaxy has a pronounced linear bar extending from one edge to the other. It only has two thin spirals making almost a full circle. According to NED, its z is only .002. So it's not very far. On the whole, the galxies in Zoo3 are quite different from those in Z2 and Z1; they are quite near but rarely does one find them with NGC numbers even when they are large, beautiful spirals. Also quite a large number of the edge-on's are bulgeless. Could it be that it is only now, with automatic digital imaging and inexpensive astronomical instruments that we are finally looking at our galactic neighbors more systematically? I am glad I am allowed a look at them.
