Colourful object or artefact?

  Not sure what this is. Looks unusual, but appears to have structure.
  Any thoughts?

  Thanks. Been doing some investigation - I think this is actually a very distant #galaxy on the basis of:

  • Guidance from the Galazy Zoo blog
  • Its similarity to the more distant galaxies at the bottom of this gallery of SDSS images
  • Fact that this image is from the Hubble CANDLE survey which is a deep field for galaxies with z > 1.0

  The object is also very dim at magnitude 23
