Double ring galaxy

  • vdizhoor by vdizhoor

Of all the galaxies that I've been prompted to identify so far this one is the most beautiful. All others were usually bleak and uninteresting. This one, however, could rival anything Hubble puts out, even if the resolution is inferior. Unless this is an artifact of the lens, this looks like a ringed galaxy. Moreover it seems to have a double ring. The outer fainter than the inner one. There is prominent halo/center. It also seems that there is a faint bar extending vertically from the halo, touching the inner ring. There also seems to be a very faint darker region of the outer ring at 2-o'clock position. Not sure if this noise, or reflecting the structure of the galaxy, perhaps a dusty region. Could also be my eyes playing tricks in a low-detail image.

This was/is a remarkable member of our universe.
