Merger? Or could they have already crashed or passed very near one another long ago & are now continuing there separation whilst reforming?

Is the mass on the left the reforming of merging galaxies and the right a galaxy quite a distance away and therefore not affected!

Both galaxies look disturbed, so they are probably interacting. #merger for me.
