symantics for UGC and NGC object tagging

  I see a note to use UGC 00103 and not UGC 103 (following NED, but not SIMBAD). Any similar advise on NGC ... always 4 digits with leading zeros, or can NGC object descriptors omit the leading zeros?

  Well I think it might when searching that is the zero's are there for a purpose. If you search without them you may find out that you have search in vain. Just my humble opinion I might add.
