Polar Ring?

  • Terrance_L._Johnson by Terrance_L._Johnson

I listed this as a one-armed spiral, but I was wondering if it might be a polar ring. I don't have much experience with polar rings. 😃

From what I've read from the forum they're usually 90 degrees of angle and have a different colour than the main galaxy. So it doesn't really seem like it. Maybe the small object at 1 o clock plowed through this one?

well if it did, it looks like it. if you squint, you'll notice that there is a faint dust trail heading from the big galaxy to the smaller one.

Sorry, no matter how I look, I can't see a real trail toward the small galaxy. I think you may be mistaking some of the optical noise that is everywhere in the frame. Our brains tend to "connect the dots" where there is no connection.

Probably. Either way, this galaxy has some cool stuff going on in it

Could that ring we see be at 90 degrees? and its other half at 90 degrees out the back (out of sight?)

It looks like dust cloud or some smaller stars orbiting around the main stars in the galaxy as observed from the picture
