The light we see here is very spread out, more so that I'd expect if these were foreground stars. The large part in the center is certainly a galaxy, and maybe a disk galaxy based on the bit of structure at 1 o'clock. The part at the top might be a dissociated clump of gas and stars, or a smaller galaxy in the process of merging with the center galaxy.
