What is meant when asked if the clumps are imbedded in a larger object? The galaxy itself is a larger object, but this can't be what the question refers to, can it? What about this galaxy - are the lumps imbeded in a larger object?

Sometimes you can get a group of clumps that appear close together but not imbedded in a galaxy. But I agree, usually the clumps will be part of a galaxy.
As for this galaxy, I'd say yes
Hope this helps
