Dust lane?

    Is this a dust lane? On the top left corner of the galaxy. Maybe I'm just trying to hard to see something 😛

    It's not a dust lane. Dust lanes tend to go across the whole visible area, but you can only see the dust lane going across the brightest area. The rest of it looks just like the galaxy's main area.

    Oh, by the way. These aren't the best images you can get of this galaxy. They are Artifically Redshifted SDSS images, created to see how the classification of galaxies changes with their distance. To see a better image, go to "examine" at the lower right corner of the image. Once there, go to the right and click on "skyserver." There, you can see a better image of the galaxy in which you can see:

    no, it is not a dustlane.

    Great, I didn't know that.
    Could you explain again why there's artificially redshifted images? I didn't really get it. Thanks!
