Green squares

  What about these green squares? Where are these (artifacts?) coming from?

  It's an artifact, but I'm not sure anyone has posted an explanation of how it happens (there are several other UKIDSS images with a very similar artifact).

  My best guess: Probably similar to the edge-of-chip error (an error found along the edge of an explored field) or cosmic rays (photons from distant supernovae accelerated to nearly the speed of light.)
