Primary focus vs. Secondary objects

  So this image seems to obviously refer to the object at the centre of the frame, yet there's so many more interesting elements and artifacts almost encircling it. Do these count as "odd" features?

  Short answer, "no".

  However, if you think any of the 'interesting elements' are related to the central object (galaxy, in this case) - a merging companion perhaps, or an overlap - then yes.
