bright blue and purple object close by

  The bright blue and purple object close by is a star, in our own galaxy, the Milky Way.

  It looks like this because it's fairly bright (for stars in SDSS), and the software which processes the data to make the image goes a bit nuts for things this bright, creating these color #artifacts.
