Has a dark spot in the middle

  • Sir_Edan by Sir_Edan

Hi, is the dark spot in the middle of this galaxy considered unusual?

    Short answer: nope!

Sometimes we see these in the SDSS images in the cores of galaxies (and in the cores of stars, too). It's just an artifact of the way the color images were made.

    Thank you for classifying!

I believe it is to compensate for the brightness of the galaxy's core

Thanks for the feedback, still learning about classifying and new to this. To say I am am amateur would be understating it. Where can I go to learn more about what to look out for.
    Thanks
