Overlap or something else?

Hi all,
There's an extra 'blob' in the northern region of this galaxy. Is that something that's in front of or behind the galaxy? Or could it be part of it?
I checked both on Skyserver, but I can't figure it out. Here's the galaxy: http://skyserver.sdss.org/dr8/en/tools/explore/obj.asp?id=1237680507188543678
Here's the other thing: http://skyserver.sdss.org/dr8/en/tools/explore/obj.asp?ra=357.09234691635385&dec=33.61777026666667

Hi @dj_tjitso 😃
Without a spectragraph being taken of both the objects and using the redshift (z) to work out the distance - it is going to be impossible to tell 😦
Neither of the objects have a spectra, and usually we can get an estimate of the redshift by looking at the photoZ, but the error margin is so high for the smaller object, it is useless in this case.
Hope this helps!

Thanks, it does actually, eventhough I didn't get an answer. At least I now know a bit more about how this all works. 😃
