Giant arms?!

  Are there 2 faint but huge arms coming off these two friends?
  What would cause those big arm/trails?
  It's like they're trying to hug but their arms are too long :3

  They are tidal trails - large streams of stars that have been disturbed due to the interaction between the two galaxies.

  This is one of the best examples I've seen yet of how much better DECaLS images are at picking up faint features like this versus SDSS images.
