mystery "smudge"

    What is the small, elongated smudge at the lower right of the central image? Is it a background spiral, edge-on? Or a galaxy being tidally stretched by the central galaxy? Thoughts?

    Most likely a satellite galaxy to the central one. Looks too diffused to be a edge-on galaxy.
