    This seems to be a very unusual image - A ring within a ring and pressumably a galaxy in the centre. I am not a scientist, perhaps
    somebody else can shed some light on this - excuse the pun, unintended!

    Yes, it looks like a ~face-on barred spiral with two rings (and no obvious spiral arms).

    Ron Buta is perhaps one of the world's experts on galaxy morphology; this page from his 2011 "Galaxy Morphology" paper covers both inner and outer (resonance) rings and is well worth reading.
