Star and gas vs galaxy?

  My opinion was that this was a star, possibly with an intervening gas cloud. Is that right, or is it a galaxy? How do I tell? Would a galaxy really have such a bright, sharp-edged nucleus?

  This is not a star but a real galaxy. It just has a very bright nucleus.

  Maybe it is easier to see in the SDSS image
