Real or Technical Error?

This galaxy's physical characteristics do not directly fit the Galaxy Zoo classification questions. I am unsure if this photo is of a real telescope observation or if the black/purple colors and shape in the middle were due to some sort of interference or technical error. I saw this in a couple other photos as well. Can someone please describe the nature of this photo?

Hi j.houghton and welcome to the Zoo
Sometimes the software gets confused and thinks a foreground star from our galaxy is a 'galaxy'.
The colours, white spikes and dark purple/black spike through the centre are all optical artifacts. Just classify as star/artifact. And remember that these classifications will help refine the classifying algorithm.
