Benchmarking

Hello,
I've just joined and wanted to make sure I'm classifying as best I can, so I would be grateful for some hints and tips. In relation to this image, I presume that the other dull 'blobs' are other distant galaxies rather than dim stars in our own Galaxy. Is that correct? Also, above this galaxy is a distinct line. Is this likely to be an image artifact or something more interesting? Looks too straight for lensing and there's no obvious cluster to lend itself to that effect anyway. It's off-centre from the galactic core and detached from it, so it probably rules out some kind of jet.
Thank you for your guidance.

I've just found the help section so I can see that this is indeed an image artifact - a cosmic ray. I've also just found the viewing guide so I'll read through that now.

Hi MrThingy and welcome to the Zoo
The small objects in this image could be distant galaxies but some of them can just as well be foreground stars from our galaxy. Without additionial information , there is just no way to tell.
Enjoy Galaxy Zoo and please, post any questions here !Happy hunting ! 😄
