Faint object is probably a faint star in our own galaxy. There are other objects around much like it.

Is overlapping foreground star in own galaxy. Would likely be more debris and deformation from interaction between objects if merger. DECaLS SkyViewer "residuals" option lets you peer beyond miasma of white and get inside them. (not entirely certain what "residuals" displays, but it is darn helpful) (-:

The residual is the result when you subtract the model from the image. If the model were a perfect fit, you'd just see noise. 😃
