Hiya,
If I put in the object nr (1237663787961614374 ) I get this image :with a foreground star in the centre of the image.
So it looks like your weird image is sadly just a foreground star !

Thank you. I figured it was just a star I got the same image. But when you look at it in aladin under the Dss color is when it turns into a light with a big Orange cloud. And ned said was possibly a quasar so was just curious. 😃

Re: Quasar cloud. DSS is made from scanned photographic plates, so the orange blob may be a coffee stain, etc. But can you send more information about how you found it? A link?
But I am not hopeful. Some quasars do have their galaxy visible around them. But this star isn't the right colour. Quasars are usually bright magenta/blue in SDSS.

To avoid confusing us, if you are posting a new topic, do it directly from Discussion, not from Recent Objects, so we don't look at the irrelevant image at the top left.

Okay sorry and thank you. When I went to the ssds to find out more information I clicked on the simbad search. It then did not have any informationso I took the coordinates it provided and opened aladin lite. Once I opened aladin lite I went through the different views on the left, ssds, allwise etc. I believe it was the third from the too dss colored that showed the orange cloud.

Hi GoldenRule,
Firstly: if you want to post images of SDSS or DECaLS surveys you don't have to upload them yourself. These surveys provide the 'saved image' service for you 😃 .
Coordinates for central object RA/Dec: 135.23941191 63.86051409
Secondly; WHAT THE HECK??##? :0
Very good of you to point this one out! It is VERY strange and there seem to be two mysteries here:
-
the strange blob can only be seen in DSS2 RED and is very much not normal. Could be an artifact but then it is probably one of two strangest artifacts ever (we've had another one here in a thread). And it doesn't look like an artifact to me really with that shape and all. But it is only visible in one DSS2 band and no other bands or surveys (before and after this image), and there isn't any record of this being a 'weird' or special object (SIMBAD / NED / VizieR).
-
Also it looks like there is an object moving on the left side of this star(?) between DSS2 RED and SDSS DR7. On the IRSA Finder Chart I can find that the DSS2 RED image is from 1999-03-12 and the SDSS images (r and i bands) from 2003-11-20.
Measuring the distance between what seems to be the same moving object I get ~ 6 arcsecs. So if true this object would be moving around 1.2857 arcsec/yr. If I am correct that is way too slow for asteroids. For high proper motion stars I think that is on the high side, with the highest one doing 10.3 arcsec/yr. But those are stars relatively close to the Sun. If this is a star its faintness could suggest it is really far away, so it's actual speed would be mind-boggling!
Below is an image with the measurement between the two different images and the (possibly) same object.:
And the link to the IRSA images
I might be wrong on the moving object since DSS2 isn't the best quality for these faint sources, but whatever these things turn out to be for me it is a great and interesting find no matter what! 😃 And also the object seems to be visible in PanSTARRS on the same position so that would not be possible if it was moving.
Very interested in other opinions,

And a second link with DSS colour image.
Here is Aladin, check out DSS2 colour + DSS2 RED and compare with SDSS DR9 😛

by Ghost_Sheep_SWR in response to Budgieye's comment.
I can't find it in any other survey than DSS2 red. If we assume it is at the distance of the star looks to me it would be many lightyears across appearing and disappearing in a timeframe of a few years. So that's as good as 'impossible' AFAIK. Could it be much closer? Probably artifact although it really doesn't look like one. Shape reminds me of a Voorwerp a bit.
Can you also see what seems to be a moving object / star?

Moving object also seems present in 2MASS K band + PanSTARRS1 i band
Survey/date/position RA, Dec:
DSS2 RED / 1999-03-12 / 135.242314 63.862883
2MASS K / 2000-03-23 / 135.239948 63.862179
SDSS DR9 / 2003-11-20 / 135.243628 63.861247
PS1 / ????-??-?? / 135.243817 63.861331
Which doesn't makes much sense to me.
DSS2 top left, 2MASS top center, SDSS and panSTARRS lower left triangles.
Hmm well that's about as much as what I'm capable of contributing. Very fun and interesting, maybe it will turn out to actually be something interesting.

Sorry, I have spent half an hour on this and I can't see what you are talking about. Please describe where you are looking.
A faint green galaxy with some red around it. Faint mag 22.

Well, I don't know.
If the peak in the spectrum is correct, it has a slight peak at 6800 which is about right for z=0.02.
But the galaxy should be brighter if it is that close.
Green faint things.. here is some reading
assuming that the photoz of 0.433828 zErr 0.147835 is correct and that is really is distant
a blue star starforming galaxy redshifted from blue to green z=0.6
an aging starburst galaxy z=8
a quasar at z=1 containing iron
not bright enough to be a quasar of z=4
New class of galaxy Luminous Infrared Galaxies or LIRGs, starforming and dusty z=5

@Budgieye : compare DSS2 color with DSS2 RED and DSS2 blue. It is below target galaxy. Same type of artifact (I assume) as the one that started this thread.
@GoldenRule:, unfortunately it is not possible to directly link an image from Aladin Lite AFAIK. Only SDSS and DECaLS, so not possible for DSS2 from Aladin, maybe from another source but don't know about that.

To help us, can you explain why you couldn't find spectra chart?
Sad story follows.
So much information in the Featured left column, and all people have to do is click on it. Moderators have spent hundreds of hours putting together information, and yet people can't find it. eg
Astrophysics for Galaxy Zoo Talk - redshift z PhotoZ spectra emissions AGN
I spent about 150 hours making that post. 😦
Should I change the name to "Learning about the Astrophysics Stuff" or something equally catchy.
I wish we could make an information robot,

I think asteroid. It appears in only one image, and looks like it might be moving during the exposure.
Here is an image of another asteroid.
This is an image of 7973 Koppeschaar that is on DSS plate xe490 dating back to February 4, 1951:

Thank you for the targeted co-ordinate. It is easier if the object is in the middle. I was looking for a blob that appeared over the classification galaxy.

I know the @ doesn't work but it's handy to show to who a message is aimed 😃
My 2 cents on the sad story;
From my personal experience the helpful links are rather 'hidden' between other featured links. Also there are multiple links eg The Index and redshift are seperate. And then there are the 'New here' and 'How to' seperate links. Renaming might help.
But maybe it might help to remove some other links on the left side to improve overview. Maybe also better to cluster the links so it is clear volunteers can find more info there.
Such as a big seperate Header 'Find out more' that visually contains The Index, Redshift and How To links. Right now they look 'thrown in' with links about Illustris etc. without distinction or order.

I couldn't get to it. Most of those that I try and open will not open. The one that I can open(the page that explains agn, voorwarp, lens, jets etc.) takes a few minutes to load then if I click on a section for more info it takes a few minutes if it doesn't freeze n I have to reopen the original. After 10 min. Of loading it's easier to ask. I don't know if it's bc my phone is old or if I'm just not technology savy. But every spectrum chart I've tried to open says there's an error

Also I spent an hour trying to get the exact coords to it and the only way I could was through ssds which where the original coords I posted. Yet it didn't show anything but the faint spectrum you commented on. Aladin lite is still on the ssds site so I wasn't able to copy n paste the exact way to see the orange object. I apologize on my lack of ability to post what I find but it's not do to laziness, between being a single dad n my job I haven't had the time to figure it out.

yes The Index may take long to load, it is composed of pretty long pages filled with big images. So esp. on older equipment / phones / 'slow' internet connection it may take awhile to load or even give up.
No problem everything I've learned so far and am still learning is through other volunteers, moderators and scientists 😃
FYI: Aladin light combines several different surveys to quickly check a certain area on different wavelenghts and in time. DSS2 is a different and much older sky survey (other telescope if I'm correct) than SDSS, so you won't find the DSS2 images in the SDSS viewer / database. That probably also explains the many artifacts; back then the images weren't digital but on physical plates that were later scanned and digitalized.
So no linked images from DSS2, but if you want to put a direct URL from Aladin Light here just select the survey, position the crosshairs at the exact place of the object and copy the URL on top of the page. This is how I posted the links to your object above. But I agree Aladin light isn't very compatible with smartphones, best used on computers.
Last advice: never stop asking! 😃
Have fun!

It would help if you could copy and paste the website address eg.
Since the orange artifacts appear in only one image, they are an artifact. As the DSS images are scanned from slides, I would say that is dust.
