What is the thing around the galaxy?

  I came through this pictrue. It looks like an elliptical galaxy, but something it disturbing right through it. What could it be?

  This a a simulation of an edge-on galaxy. The spiral arms are blue, and the center is red. So the ends of the galaxy are blue.
