ERM, what am I looking at?

  • CyberPaddy66 by CyberPaddy66

I don't even know what to start classifying this one as, I think the orange object is a distant galaxy that just happens to be in the right spot in this picture to look like it is effecting the shape of a dust cloud. The lighter blob at the top right may be a star forming in the cloud but the shape of the cloud is what is really stumping me, do I class this as an asymmetrical galaxy or an artifact?

Yes, a tough one. It takes a moment to decide which galaxy is the target. It is centered on a dim part of the irregular galaxy, not the brighter part of the galaxy above the center. There is a more distant orange galaxy on the left.

I would think that the target galaxy is a shredded fragment, the result of a past collision. There are other galaxies of similar colour "nearby"

I would classify as features, no, no, no, no, and irregular.

Thanks again, I thought that might be the case but wasn't sure so figured it best to ask.
