Possible lensing effect

  • CyberPaddy66 by CyberPaddy66

This is the first time that I have seen anything like this, it took me a while to work out which galaxy was the target of focus and while trying to see the shape of the galaxy I noticed what looks to me to be interference rings which are distorting the galaxy just above the target one. Is this really a lensing effect or am I just imagining that the galaxy near by is distorted and instead it is just a result of data anomalies from a pair of merci galaxies?

Someone sent me a pm explaining that it's just a data error, was the first time I saw any errors in these pictures so was a bit confused, now I know what to watch out for.

Gravitational lenses are usually bright and distinctive. Some images here.

It is the symmetrical look of the data error's that initially confused me, the only other lens I had seen beforehand was the obvious one in the Hubble deep field image.
