Reflection or Merge?

The lower of the two dots is what is confusing me. It appears to be extremely similar in size and shape to the upper dot, the only thing different is the brightness. I didn't know if the upper dot (galaxy) was somehow reflected to look like there's two galaxies, or if it's just two very similar galaxies merging together.

In an edge-on galaxy, the spiral arms are seen from the side, and the thickest parts look like disks. Though here, one spiral arm seems much brighter than the other.
