Can galaxies really appear this dense and defined?

This appears to look more like a planetoid with the red then blue shadings. Looks too defined around the edges to be a garden variety elliptical galaxy.

Welcome, Jeff.Bower. Yes, this is really a galaxy. I used to be very annoyed with the small denses galaxies like this. They are usually intensely star-forming so are much more interesting than they appear.

EDIT: blue and red shading is an artifact of poor stacking of the 2 coloured images.

AMAZING GALAXY OF THE WEEK: Back at the beginning of Galaxy Zoo some
of our vigilant volunteers started spotting a type of galaxy that
appeared unusual. They are small, round and greenish-blue. Their
colour is due to an unusually high rate of star formation. It turned
out that they were an entirely new class of galaxy! Their discovery is
a great example of the power of citizen science.

Just a reminder that the current images don't have green in them.

    AND

Although most will be bad stacking / galaxy-star overlap etc. I'm not convinced none are actually two-coloured, either because of merger or some other process. Maybe something fresh and new in there...

There are some good examples in the blue-red pill thread that are bi-coloured in multiple surveys.
