This is actually really incredible to me, I've never seen anything quite like it, it looks like a cluster of new stars, but I haven't the expertise to diagnose such a thing. I would love to know what the final result of this is!

The white, spiky objects are indeed stars. But no way to tell, from just this image if they are really close together.
