Star to the bottom right looks like it just exploded!

Yes, it does, doesn't it? However, it's just an #artifact; that's the way pretty much all bright stars appear in SDSS images like this.

Did you notice the red line (bottom left)? That's a #satellitetrail; they're usually green (but can also be red, or blue).
