Artificially Redshifted Images

  I have been looking at many of these images on the SkyServer, and they all seem to be with a z of around 1 and almost all magnificently blue and sparkling. Does anyone have an explanation or theory of what these galaxies are; is there a relationship among them? Please post if you know.
