Disturbed?

Is there an asymmetry here that suggests this galaxy being disturbed? Or is the cloud on the outside of the spiral arm pattern simply a continuation of said pattern?

I personally would not of classified this galaxy as disturbed - it is a two armed barred spiral. The spiral arms are very tight, giving the appearance of a ring - that is probably what you are seeing on the outskirts of the galaxy.
