    I think the thing in the middle is a galaxy. It's got a nucleus. But what about the rest of the stuff around it? Do I just ignore those?

    Correct, the central object is a fuzzy galaxy. All the other objects in this image are foreground stars from our galaxy. And since you are supposed to classify the object in the center of the image it is safe to ignore them. 😄 But if you see something interesting that is not in the center of the image you can always post it here in Talk !
