Very interesting item in Skyserver

Look at the large SkyServer image for this object, and look at about 5:00. There is a field of green spots. I have not seen this before.

Yes. The green spots in a cluster.

Could be a foreground (in our own Milky Way) nebula. If so, then LizPeter may have it in their GZ forum thread Identification list of all posted nebulae.. Search on ObjId 587724232644165936?
In DR7 Navigate, it's much less prominent, and has a suspiciously sharp lower edge ...

I did not see 587724232644165936 on the list at http://www.galaxyzooforum.org/index.php?topic=273756.0.
How do you get the Object ID?
So I guess it is a MW nebula. It even looks close.
Do we record this somewhere?Posted

A friend pointed out that this might be an artifact.
The object does not show up on Aladin:

How do you get the Object ID?
If you use the DR7 Navigate tool, and click on a likely photometric object, you'll get a new (Explore) page, with a URL something like this:
http://cas.sdss.org/dr7/en/tools/explore/obj.asp?id=587724232644165936
The 587724232644165936 is the DR7 ObjId.
Do we record this somewhere?
It used to be diligently recorded, and analyzed, in the GZ forum (mostly by LizPeter); here in GZ Talk, not so much (as far as I know). There isn't even a hashtag (again, as far as I know).
Hope this helps.

For what it's worth, my initial reaction was that it is a photographic anomaly rather than any cosmic object. The sharp cut-off at the bottom of the green patch seems to be unnatural. The closeness of a large light spike from a nearby star (which could cause over-exposure, lens flare or such like) might bring about the artifact. It is also very diffuse.

see how this glow could be related to the bottom star and neighbor viewed in the next field
red and green glow, bleeding star (hiding an asteroid)

Here is another glare problem, very similar, and easier to understand. Visible in expanded SkyServer image for AGZ0004zz2
