Off-center bulge?

    This one is particularly odd. Very disturbed, yet clearly spiral. The tighter edge is starforming my guess, but do the clear spiral remnants indicate a late-stage merge?

    Yes, but what does it meeeeean? They're kind of far apart from each other...

    Not that far apart in astronomical terms!

    It could mean one of two things:

    • that they have interacted with each other in the past and are moving away from each other (a fly by), or;
    • they are starting to interact with each other and are moving towards each other and could possibly merge.

    Impossible to say which just by looking at this image 😃
