The Ring

Hey Everyone! I am new to Galaxy Zoo. I want to find some really cool observations. As I am sorting through these galaxies identifying different characteristics which is great! I would like to know more about them. How does the ring form around it the galaxy?

There a several different catagories of ring galaxies and each can get formed in a different manner, for example we can have rings created when two galaxies collide into each other (collisional ring galaxies) or through resonance (movement of stars within the galaxy).
I would suggest reading 6. OTHER DIMENSIONS TO GALAXY MORPHOLOGY - from Galaxy Morphology by Ronald J. Buta
There are a lot of articles available online - if you enter "ring galaxies" into your search engine and enter, the articles on the first page are all quite good and easy to understand. The pictures are pretty cool too!
Happy Hunting 😃
