ETG with sort of ring around it

  • Dolorous_Edd by Dolorous_Edd

Not a GZ one, but still interesting

There is sort of faint ring around the galaxy

    enter image description here

    The galaxy is SDSSJ110215.68+290725.2

    Is it tidal debris?

    Not in DECaLS footprint unfortunately

I'd go for disturbed spiral for this one (not an elliptical). So yes to tidal debris. 😄

No culprit in sight, but the trail on the lower right of the image( where the nice ring is broken) that aims at 4 o'clock seems much more solid / structured than the ring itself.. Interesting!

That's a clever way of diagnosing possible disturbed galaxies, just by looking at the density of SDSS targets around it. You're doing a basic two-point correlation function by eye. 😃

AGZ000b446 might this be a similair one in an earlier stage? Ring is forming and has a similair straightline feature, tidal debris. Spectra seem 'reasonably' similar except for the large spikes
