What could that blue light be?

  So the obvious possibilities include a star that happens to be overlapping, but it appears to be within the galaxy. Could it be the remnants of a merge? I'd like to see what other people have to say about this.

  I would think your first guess is correct, an overlapping star. Galaxy nuclei are fuzzier.
