Hi KimFryer and welcome to the Zoo
This is indeed a spiral galaxy. But determining how many spiral arms there are is not such an easy task ! 😄
Happy hunting!

Thank you, it's good to be here, I feel right at home 😃 and yup, I had trouble counting the arms too! I also witnessed a supernova back in 2005.. SN2005GL it was amazing, have never seen anything like it.

We occasionally see supernovae in our images. You may be interested in the Unreported Supernovae page https://talk.galaxyzoo.org/#/boards/BGZ0000007/discussions/DGZ00016qc

Oooh thank you 😃 I will definitely check it out. It lit up the whole sky and then just.. dissipated.. gone, amazing.

That sounds like a meteor, a small stone burning up in our atmospere, and quite a bright one too. Check the IMO page http://www.imo.net/ to see if they have listed it. Do you remember the date, time and location?
A supernova lasts for several weeks, and you need a telescope to see them.
