Severely disturbed galaxy or excited gas

Again need help in tnterpreting image. Is this a severely disturbed galaxy due to previous merger or am I seeing excited gas clouds. I'm a REAL novice and just trying to learn.

I would classify this one as a severely disturbed, barred spiral galaxy. But hey, that is just me !
