Galaxy Distance from Earth

Could the distance, to the galaxy, be given when classifying or are most within a specific distance? It would also be helpful to have size metrics.

When classifying, we are not supposed to have any clues, because it would bias what we do. We are supposed to just use our eyes.
Do you know how to find information on your galaxy afterwards?
