Weird looking bulge

The bulge seems elongated. Or is it just a star? Or maybe an ovelapping galaxy. The "bulge" is much more red than the rest of the galaxy.

The bright object to the right of the centre of the galaxy looks like a foreground star to me. The one to the left could also be a foreground star but I'm not sure about that. It would be a strange alignment.
