Headlight galaxy

  • DocWilliamson by DocWilliamson

A great deal of this galaxy's light is coming from a large region at the "center" of a cluster of smaller space bodies, but it also appears that this hot central cluster of recessed from the wider cluster of stars on the right which do appear to be contributing to the light seen by our observation point. The cluster of stars on the left appears to reflect little or none of the hot body light in our direction. This may be caused by a band of dust which obscures light from the "back" half of the galaxy (the left side in this picture).
