is there an accessible data set of galaxy orientations? preferably in galactic coordinates

Not sure what you are asking ?
Do you mean a catalog like NED or SIMBAD ?

which way the plane of rotation is oriented and which way it is rotating. for example our solar system's plane of rotation is 60 degrees from the milky way. what is the degree difference between the Andromeda galaxy and our galaxy? furthermore if we overlapped the Andromeda galaxy on our galaxy what heading would the planes of intersection make? this is basically taking the strike and dip of other galaxies relative to our own. strike and dip are geology terms i don't know if astrophysics has a similar set of tools? enter image description here

Here is a video on the noted information source you tube.

It looks as if Andromeda Galaxy will not actually slice into the Milky Way like a circular saw, they will pass close, interact, and merge.

Some work is being done on the orientation of lots of galaxies. But it is a new field.
See the further reading on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galactic_orientation.

Try going on Google scholar to get some more references.

thanks for the link. i was not implying Andromeda will cut cleanly through the milky way just using it as a visual

My apologies, I was being silly. I was trying to be visually descriptive, too. I should remain serious ( and boring).

Please let us know what you find out. 😃
