Nucleated Dwarf Galaxies

Nice error margin on the redshift. Based on the comparison of colors and appearance with the other ones this one is also probably somewhere in the z=0.003-0.004 range.

Well I think it is safe to conclude they aren't coincidental foreground stars, probably alot of them misidentified by SDSS as stars due to the faint spectra.
But what are the white point-sources in the center? Faint LSB Dwarf galaxies hosting SMBH's? Mini-AGN's? Not really bright but very distinctive objects
AFAIK not like globular star clusters which can have a lot of stars concentrated in the center but don't have real nuclei. So probably something in between star clusters and bigger galaxies, but a bit more akin to full-blown galaxies?
In the meantime I'll collect more, but this is a pretty good representative set already.

Those are called "nucleated dwarf galaxies," I think. Did you get these from the low redshift galaxies misidentified as stars discussion? There were a fair number of these in the lists that were posted. A few of them are probably uncataloged.
I think I tweeted at somebody on the science team about that discussion, got no response, and moved on to topics of more interest to me.

Ah yes thanks, correct designation.
Did you get

discussion? There were a fair number of these in the lists that were

This one I started because the white object is usually called coincidental foreground star, and misidentification by SDSS as star (with spectral type!) strenghtens this. But after seeing a certain number of almost the same galaxies I got convinced these are not foreground stars but some sort of nucleus. Which indeed most / all are.
I think I tweeted at somebody on the science team about that
discussion, got no response, and moved on to topics of more interest
to me.Yeah I saw the tweet, retweeted it some time later IIRC. Seems a fair amount of study is already done on these objects, but perhaps collecting them might reveal some new unknown ones.

And shall there be a separate hashtag for these?

Not that I know of, just started to collect them because I think they are really cool and might be usefull in the future, nothing official from GZ or anything, thanks! 😃

AGZ000czao, There are alot of these in the sdss listed as F9 stars came across a least a dozen or more last year. BM

Does look like one but has a redshift of z=~0.05 so probably not a dwarf but a distant spiral mimicking the appearance 😃
