An interesting project for the eclipse : replicating the 1919 experiment which measured the deflection of light from stars by the stretching of space near the Sun.
more general info on where to go, etc. http://www.skyandtelescope.com/2017-total-solar-eclipse/
The stars are deflected 0.5 sec of arc. That is not very much. Here is the red dwarf star Wolfe 359, with a 5 arc-sec bar.
