The center of this spiral seems to be missing.

I thought a dust cloud but it seems an odd place for that. Unless the dust cloud isnt anywhere close it should be flung to the outer edges.

possibly a foreground object, then?

#disturbed #spiral – The disc is there - it is off center, possibly due to a merger or other disturbance.

Very wierd - just a very disturbed disc galaxy I think.

is it a possibility that it is a very large black hole? judging by the sprials the dark area appears to be central to the galaxy?

I think it is safe to say that that is definitely not a black hole.

Dark matter would be more probable than a black hole.

Not a BH or dark matter. I agree with Karen: just a very disturbed galaxy, maybe even one that just looks like a disk in projection.

weird, nucleus is off-center

stars in a galaxy orbit around all the mass, not the nucleus
