  The blue object at the bottom of the pic is just a foreground star

  In the lower left part of the galaxy, there's an "extension" to the arm that's blue

  Oops, sorry. That looks more like a star forming area in the galaxy

  Looks too irregular compared to the rest of the galaxy. Either way, even it is merging, it will be a star formation area .
