  interaction with smaller neighbour but not sure about merger - starburst blotch in neighbour but no distortion, unlike main object

  The bright object to the bottom is a foreground star from our galaxy. So no interaction possible.

  You may be correct - there may be interaction. big trailing arm, photoz similar, same colour
