  Are these merging galaxies? Or something else? What is the significance of the split colors (blue/green, red/orange) in each ball of light?

  There may be an elliptical galaxy behind (brown area) but foreground stars are over-exposed/out of focus in front of it, hence false colors.

  I see the red target as behind a blue Foreground local star which has hints of diffraction spikes.
