I believe this a galaxy merger, do others concur? It is a bit strange looking.

I don't think it is a merger - we are only viewing these images in a single band or wavelength so that could account for the strangeness.

it would be interesting to see this object in more wavelengths, the two dimensional view of this 3D object looks like a wrap around to me.
